Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management
DIPLOMA IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
The Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management is a comprehensive two-year program designed to prepare students for professional careers in the fast-growing tourism and hospitality industry. It is structured across four semesters and integrates both theoretical concepts and practical skills, enabling learners to gain a deeper understanding of how the tourism and hospitality sectors function locally and internationally. The program focuses on developing competent graduates who can deliver excellent customer service, manage tourism operations, and support sustainable tourism and hospitality development.
Throughout the course, students are introduced to key areas such as tourism operations, hospitality management, cultural heritage interpretation, sustainable tourism practices, travel planning, front office procedures, food and beverage service, housekeeping operations, and destination marketing. These areas are carefully selected to give learners a strong foundation in both tourism and hospitality fields. The program ensures that students acquire essential competencies needed to work effectively in hotels, restaurants, tour companies, travel agencies, airlines, resorts, cultural sites, and other tourism-related institutions.
To support effective learning, each semester is organized with clearly outlined course units presented in a structured table format. The tables include important components such as course code, course name, lecture time (LT), practical hours (PH), contact hours (CH), and credit units (CU). This approach helps students easily monitor their progress and provides a balanced blend of classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and field experiences. The combination of theory and practical exposure ensures that students are well-prepared for real-world industry demands.
The diploma further emphasizes experiential learning through field trips, industrial training attachments, case studies, and practical demonstrations. These activities allow students to interact with professionals in the field, observe real-life tourism and hospitality operations, and build the confidence required to handle customer-facing roles. By the end of the program, learners develop strong communication skills, customer care abilities, cultural awareness, leadership skills, and problem-solving techniques—qualities highly valued in tourism and hospitality service environments.
Graduates of the Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management are equipped to take up diverse career opportunities such as tour consultants, hotel front office staff, housekeeping supervisors, event coordinators, guest relations officers, travel agents, restaurant attendants, and tourism development assistants. The diploma also provides a solid academic foundation for students who wish to advance to higher education, including bachelor’s degrees in Tourism, Hospitality, Leisure Studies, Hotel Management, or related disciplines.
This program is therefore not only designed to build technical and practical skills, but also to nurture professionalism, ethical conduct, and entrepreneurial thinking among students, ensuring they thrive in an industry where service excellence and customer satisfaction are key.
